How We Work

A group of people engaging in a workshop discussion around a table, with one person gesturing towards a large display board labeled "Table 1: 30% Local Food Purchasing."

As determined by our strategic plan, we have a self-managing structure with shared leadership and decision making. Vermont FEED serves as the backbone for the Network.

We operate in six Action Teams and an overarching Common Circle to work towards the collective Network goal.

Action Teams

The Network uses six Action Teams, each focused on a specific “leverage point” to advance its system-wide goals. Each team meets monthly and is led by facilitators who guide efforts tailored to the team’s priorities.

  • Ease of Use
  • Research & Evaluation
  • Demonstrating the Educational Value of Farm to School
  • Local Purchasing
  • Policy & Demand
  • Farm to Early Childhood Coalition

Common Circle

To coordinate communication, each team is represented by one person in the Common Circle. The Common Circle meets monthly to make overarching decisions, allocate funding, identify gaps, coordinate efforts and communication, measure progress, and ensure that the whole group is moving toward the goal. Each presentative brings updates and feedback from the individual Action Teams and reports back on the progress of the whole.
