Farm to school makes food real and it can be a powerful beginning to changing the food system as a whole — the way we eat, teach, farm, and care for our communities. This fall, we're inviting educators, farmers, students, and neighbors across Vermont to put that impact into words or pictures: a love letter to farm to school.
We'll gather these letters and drawings into a traveling display to carry to the State House, so lawmakers and funders can see what farm to school really means to the people living it every day.
💌 How to Participate:
#1 In Person
Find us at harvest dinners, our gathering, conferences, and farm to school events this fall. Stop by, grab a pen or some markers, and create your drawing or letter. We'll have love letter stations set up at:
- Our Network Gathering, November 2 in Cabot (details to come)
- More events to come!
#2 From Anywhere, Anytime
Write your letter or draw your picture at home, on your own time, and submit it through the form below. Use the directions below to share your love and submit your entry using the form. Examples can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
Option 1: Draw a Picture
For our younger friends (or anyone who'd rather draw than write), show us what farm to school means to you. Some questions to get the creativity flowing:
- Why do you like being in the garden?
- What do you like to do when you visit a farm?
- What healthy foods do you like to eat at school? How do they make you feel?
Option 2: Write a Letter
Here are some prompts to get you started. You don't need to answer them all, just pick whatever sparks an idea:
- What has it taught you?
- Why does it matter?
- Why do you keep choosing this work?
- When did you first fall in love with this work?
- What human needs does this work nourish?
- What values live inside this work?
- What would you miss if farm to school disappeared?
- What kind of schools or communities could grow from this work?
- What do you want farm to school to become?
💌 Where Your Submission Goes
Every letter and drawing we collect does two things:
- Some will appear below, in a growing online gallery, so the whole community can enjoy them. Click on the images to view them full screen for easier reading.
- All of them become part of a physical collection that we'll bring to the State House as part of our advocacy work. It will be unveiled during Farm to School & Early Childhood Day in early 2027.
